‘Settle it with ballots, not guns,’ Davido condemns attack on Osun Accord chairman

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has condemned the attack on the chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola, popularly known as Baba Isila, urging politicians to embrace peaceful democratic processes.

The singer reacted on Thursday after suspected gunmen reportedly attacked Ajibola and his associates on Wednesday night in Osogbo, leaving the politician injured.

According to information shared by Davido on his X account, the attack occurred around 9:50 p.m. near the Osogbo Community Bank axis in the MDS area when gunmen allegedly opened fire on a blue Toyota Corolla carrying Ajibola and his associates.

The incident reportedly caused panic among residents, while the Accord Party chieftain was rushed to a teaching hospital for treatment.

Reacting to the development, Davido said political differences should never lead to violence or insecurity.

“Regardless of our political differences, everyone must make sure they are not contributing to insecurity in our nation,” he wrote.

“The attack on the Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government by political hoodlums must be condemned and rejected by all.”

The singer also urged political actors to resolve electoral contests through the ballot box rather than violence.

“If APC is sure they are popular, let’s settle this with ballot papers, not guns or weapons,” he added.

The attack comes ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election, in which Governor Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle, is expected to seek re-election.
