The Williams sisters were awarded a wildcard and are scheduled to play Camila Osorio and Solana Sierra in their first-round match.
According to ESPN, only Venus Williams was listed on the practice schedule on Wednesday.
Her agent, Jill Smoller, released a statement on Wednesday confirming that Williams tweaked her right knee at the end of the first set.
“She left site that night unaided and is doing everything she can to be ready for her doubles match later this week,” Smoller said.
Serena Williams is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, holding 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most by any player in the Open Era.
