The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has dismissed head coach Pape Thiaw along with his entire technical staff following the country’s disappointing 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure in charge of the Lions of Teranga, Africa Soccer reports.
The decision comes amid growing pressure from supporters and football stakeholders after Senegal’s dramatic Round of 32 elimination.
The West African giants squandered a two-goal advantage before suffering a heartbreaking 3-2 extra-time defeat to Belgium, a result that sparked widespread criticism of the coaching staff.
Thiaw, who succeeded Aliou Cissé in late 2024, had initially enjoyed a promising spell, guiding Senegal to qualification for the World Cup and overseeing their campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
However, his reign was overshadowed by controversy following the AFCON final, where disciplinary issues and a subsequent CAF suspension drew significant attention.

Following the World Cup exit, thousands of Senegalese fans called for sweeping changes within the national team setup, with petitions demanding the dismissal of Thiaw gathering significant support.
Reports also highlighted internal tensions within the squad in the aftermath of the tournament.
The FSF has now opted for a complete overhaul by relieving Thiaw and his entire backroom staff of their duties as the federation begins preparations for the next international cycle, including the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Attention will now shift to the search for a new head coach capable of restoring Senegal’s status as one of Africa’s leading football nations and rebuilding confidence after an underwhelming World Cup campaign.
The federation is expected to announce an interim arrangement or a permanent replacement in the coming weeks.
