Senator Umar dumps APC, joins PRP

By Christopher Ameh

BAUCHI — Senator Shehu Umar, who represents Bauchi South senatorial district in the National Assembly, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and announced his membership in the People’s Redemption Party (PRP).

Umar said his decision was driven by the APC’s lack of internal democracy, perceived unfairness, marginalisation of genuine party members, and a growing disregard for the views and aspirations of grassroots supporters.

He explained that the move followed extensive consultations with political associates, youth groups, women’s organisations, party stakeholders, and supporters throughout Bauchi South Senatorial District and the wider Bauchi State.

According to Umar, the PRP is built on principles of justice, transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, and people‑oriented leadership, and it remains committed to the democratic values enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He said his defection to the PRP aims to strengthen democratic governance, protect the interests of ordinary citizens, and provide effective and responsive representation for the people of Bauchi State.

Umar added that Nigeria’s democracy can only thrive where political parties uphold fairness, equal opportunity, internal democracy, and active member participation in decision‑making processes.

He called for patriotic leaders to unite and rescue the country from poverty, unemployment, insecurity, economic hardship, and poor governance.

“Our people deserve better governance, better opportunities and leadership that truly listens to their concerns. Politics should be about service to humanity, justice, development and improving the living conditions of the masses,” the senator said.

He reaffirmed his commitment to champion policies and programmes that directly impact ordinary citizens, especially in youth empowerment and job creation, quality education and scholarship opportunities, and improved healthcare delivery.

Umar urged his supporters, political allies and well‑wishers to join him in the PRP so that the collective struggle for good governance, social justice, accountability and sustainable development in Bauchi State can continue.

He assured the people of Bauchi State that his dedication to their progress, unity and development remains unwavering, promising to continue providing purposeful leadership and effective representation at all levels.
