On Monday, Samaila Dahuwa Kaila, the senator for Bauchi North, failed to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination for a return to the Senate after losing the party’s primary election.

Kaila, originally elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), switched to the APC in 2025. He has been a prominent critic of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed’s planned move to the ruling party.

Brigadier‑General Saidu Abdulhameed (Rtd), Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee, announced the results of the direct primary. Three candidates vied for the Bauchi North senatorial slot. Kaila received 12,912 votes, Ibrahim Mohammed Baba 22,744 votes, and Sirajo Ibrahim Tanko 5,202 votes.

“Therefore, Ibrahim Mohammed Baba, having satisfied the requirements and garnered the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner for Bauchi North Senatorial District,” the chairman said.

In Bauchi South, Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi won the APC nomination with 25,762 votes, defeating four other contenders. The committee reported that Brigadier‑General Abubakar Suleiman Maikano (Rtd) received 6,870 votes, Hon. Shehu Aliyu Dass 6,648 votes, Rt. Hon. Abdulmumini Kundak 4,975 votes, and Ibrahim Usman 4,922 votes.

“Therefore, Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi, having satisfied the constitutional requirements and guidelines of the election, is hereby declared the winner of the Bauchi South Senatorial District APC ticket,” the chairman added.

The committee also released the results of the Bauchi Federal Constituency primary, contested by five aspirants, including Idris Isa Yuguda, son of former Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda. Idris Isa Yuguda received 4,053 votes, Salisu Sabo 1,410 votes, Bidi’atu Inuwa 1,350 votes, Jibrin Abdullahi Sirajo 13,190 votes, and Mohammed Mustapha 1,214 votes.

“Therefore, Jibrin Abdullahi Sirajo, having satisfied constitutional requirements and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the APC ticket for Bauchi Federal Constituency,” the committee declared.
