Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a political platform created to undermine Yoruba interests and destabilise Nigeria’s political system.
Bamidele, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District, made the remarks in Igede‑Ekiti while addressing party supporters in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government during a campaign tour for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s re‑election bid ahead of the June 20 gubernatorial election.
The Senate Leader alleged that the ADC was formed with the purpose of weakening Yoruba political influence and fostering disunity nationwide.
He called on party loyalists and residents to remain united and to direct their support to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections, rather than backing a party he said exhibits traits that could disrupt the peace currently enjoyed in Ekiti and across the country.
According to Bamidele, the APC leadership values the continued support it has received from the people over the years, noting that the APC administration in Ekiti has pursued a transparent and people‑oriented approach to governance.
Bamidele explained that most projects being implemented throughout the state stem from recommendations and requests gathered directly from residents during government consultations in various local governments.
He asserted that the collaboration between the government and the people has produced positive outcomes, emphasizing that the APC administration remains committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to Ekiti’s residents.
His words: “We are grateful for your support over the years. We in the APC are here to appreciate what you have done before and the constitution of the country allows a deserving governor to run for a second term.
“We have a conscience that is clear. We are all partners in progress and our partnership is not a conspiracy against the people because most of the projects we have embarked upon are recommendations from the people after the state government toured the local governments to ask for their needs.
“ADC is an anti‑Yoruba party formed to destroy the nation. They said they have a candidate in Ekiti and they want to claim government in Nigeria to disrupt the country. Don’t lose your votes.
“We must put all our votes in one basket, everything for APC”.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji also pledged to deliver additional dividends of democracy after his re‑election, stating that many infrastructural projects remain in the pipeline for his administration to execute.
He added that the gubernatorial election serves as a testing ground for President Bola Tinubu, noting that achieving a target of 500,000 votes is intended to demonstrate to the President that Ekiti is secured for his re‑election bid in 2027.
