The Senate has approved constitutional amendments that will create a state police force in Nigeria.
Lawmakers voted in favor of the bill on Wednesday.
Before the vote, senators decided to conduct the session by hand tally because the electronic voting system had malfunctioned.
Senators worried that using the defective device could leave some members without a vote.
During the manual count, each senator will stand, state their name, and publicly state their position on the proposed state police framework.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved the motion to adopt manual voting.
