After Manchester City defeated Chelsea in Saturday’s FA Cup final, Antoine Semenyo said he had never before competed for trophies in his career.

Semenyo was the match‑winner, scoring with a clever back‑heel from an Erling Haaland cross to secure a 1‑0 victory over Chelsea.

The Ghanaian international had a notable 2025/26 season, scoring double‑digit goals in the Premier League with Bournemouth, which led to a £62.5 million move to the Etihad Stadium during the winter transfer window.

Alongside Marc Guehi, he was signed to bring top‑tier experience and extra quality to a squad in transition following its first trophy‑less season since 2017.

The transfer has proven highly successful, with City winning two cup trophies and staying in contention for the league title.

When discussing the decisive goal and the guidance he received from his manager, he said: “Everything happened so fast, to be honest. It came straight to me and I had to improvise as quickly as I could. It has happened a couple of times in training – it happened perfectly today.”

He added, “It’s a good finish, I can’t lie. As a child I always wanted to play for top teams – it took a long time to get there, but I am grateful.”

The first thing Pep Guardiola said to him upon arrival was “don’t change your game.” He knows they control the game a lot, yet he still wants him to stay true to himself and create a bit of chaos.

He added, “I have never competed for trophies like this before, so everything is new to me. Hopefully, we can finish the job off.”
