The Edo State Security Corps has detained three individuals suspected of vandalizing government property in the state.

The suspects were reportedly captured by security forces at a hideout located within a primary school in Ovia North East Local Government Area.

Deputy Commandant Richard Balogun, who heads operations for the state security outfit, briefed reporters in Benin City about the arrest.

Balogun identified the detainees as Daniel Idong (29) of Cross River State, Destiny Idahosa (18), and Bright Efosa (25), both from Edo State.

The arrests took place at approximately 7:06 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, during an operation conducted by the Oluku command of the Corps.

According to Balogun, the suspects were apprehended on charges of vandalism and armed robbery.

Preliminary investigations suggest the trio was involved in vandalizing government property and unlawfully occupying the premises of Oluku Primary School.

"Using a public school as a criminal hideout is disturbing and poses a threat to public safety. The security agencies will continue to clamp down on criminal elements in the state," Balogun said.

Balogun, who criticized the incident, also mentioned that he had recently visited local schools to educate residents and students about protecting government property from vandalism.

He added that the suspects are under investigation for criminal trespass and actions that could disrupt public peace in the community.

The detainees have been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of the Ekiadolor Police Division for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Destiny Idahosa, one of the suspects, admitted to stealing a mobile phone from a commercial bus driver.
