eid el kabir

Eid al‑Kabir, also called Eid al‑Adha or the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is the major Islamic holiday commemorating the willingness of the Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. It occurs on the 10th day of Dhu l‑Hijja, the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and lasts up to four days. Muslims worldwide perform special prayers, give charity (zakat al‑fidya), and many slaughter an animal (usually a sheep, goat, cow, or camel) to share the meat with family, friends, and the needy. The holiday coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca. Views Nigeria
