Why Idoma Has Not Produced a Benue Governor

Idoma politicians have not become Benue State governors mainly because the state’s political power is traditionally dominated by the Tiv, who are the larger ethnic group and control the major party structures and vote‑bank networks. Party primaries and electoral alliances in Benue tend to favor Tiv candidates, and intra‑state power‑sharing arrangements have rarely rotated the governorship to the Idoma minority, limiting their chances of winning the top office.
