Japan imposes stricter documentation requirements for student visas

Japan’s Ministry of Justice announced that, starting July 2024, applicants for student visas must submit additional documentation to verify their enrollment and financial support. Required papers now include a detailed tuition‑payment schedule from the school, proof of sufficient funds for living expenses (bank statements covering at least six months), and a signed “Letter of Acceptance” that specifies the program’s duration and curriculum. The changes aim to curb visa fraud and ensure that foreign students can fully fund their studies while in Japan.
