Iran intercepts U.S.-made weapons carried by Iraqi groups
In early 2024 Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced that it had intercepted shipments of U.S.-made weapons destined for Iraqi militia groups aligned with Tehran. The weapons, reportedly including small arms, ammunition and drone components, were seized at Iran’s western border and in the Persian Gulf, with Iranian officials saying the interceptions prevented the arms from reaching the militias and underscored Tehran’s effort to control the flow of foreign weapons into Iraq’s armed factions.
