Hormuz: FAO Calls for Alternative Trade Routes to
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) warned that the recent closure and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s main oil‑shipping chokepoints—could jeopardize the global flow of agricultural commodities and fertilizers. To prevent shortages and price spikes, the FAO urged governments and trade partners to develop alternative maritime routes and logistics corridors, such as using the Red Sea‑Suez Canal, the Cape of Good Hope, and overland rail links, while also expanding regional storage and processing capacity to ensure food‑security supply chains remain resilient.
