Court invalidates parts of INEC timetable, affirming constitutional
The Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that several provisions of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) 2023 election timetable were unconstitutional and therefore invalid. The judgment struck down the dates for the presidential, governorship and National Assembly primaries, the voter registration deadline and the timetable for the conduct of the general elections, holding that the schedule violated the Constitution’s requirements for reasonable notice, adequate preparation time and compliance with the “no‑delay” principle for elections. The court ordered INEC to revise the timetable in line with constitutional standards. Views Nigeria
