Why Idoma Has Not Produced a Benue Governor

Idoma politicians have repeatedly contested Benue’s governorship but have never won because the state’s electoral dynamics are dominated by the larger Tiv and Igala groups, whose combined population and political networks outnumber the Idoma minority. Party structures and candidate selection often favor Tiv or Igala aspirants, and intra‑state power‑sharing agreements have historically allocated the governorship to those groups, leaving the Idoma community without a governor despite occasional strong candidates.
