eid prayers
Eid prayers are special congregational prayers performed by Muslims twice a year to mark the festivals of Eid al‑Fitr (celebrating the end of Ramadan) and Eid al‑Adha (commemorating the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son). Held in open fields, mosques, or large halls, the prayer consists of two rak‘ahs (units) with extra takbīrs (saying “Allāhu akbar”) after the opening takbīr, followed by a short sermon (khutbah). After the prayer, worshippers greet each other with “Eid Mubarak,” give charity (ṣadaqah al‑fitr for Eid al‑Fitr), and share festive meals. Views Nigeria
