US Imposes New Sanctions on Iran

In April 2024 the United States announced a new round of sanctions targeting Iran’s nuclear and ballistic‑missile programs, as well as its support for militant groups. The measures freeze assets of dozens of Iranian individuals and entities, prohibit U.S. persons from dealing with them, and restrict Iran’s access to the U.S. financial system. The sanctions also expand export controls on dual‑use technologies that could aid Iran’s weapons development and reinforce existing penalties for human‑rights abuses and terrorism financing. The move aims to pressure Tehran back to the nuclear negotiations and curb its regional destabilizing activities. Views Nigeria
