Teachers protest, demand rescue of abducted colleagues, pupils

In early 2024, teachers in several regions of Pakistan staged protests after a number of their colleagues were abducted by armed groups. The educators demanded that authorities locate and rescue the missing teachers, warning that continued insecurity would force schools to close and jeopardize students’ education. The protests included strikes, rallies outside education offices and public appeals to the government and security forces to act swiftly to ensure the safety of teachers and allow pupils to return to class.
