Nigerian, US forces kill over 20 ISWAP fighters

In early May 2024, U.S. special‑operations forces conducted an airstrike in Nigeria’s Borno State that killed more than 20 fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a militant offshoot of Boko Haram. The strike was part of ongoing U.S. counter‑terrorism operations supporting Nigerian forces against the group, which has been responsible for numerous attacks on civilians and military targets in the Lake Chad region.
