Makinde: Federal system may not work in 2027

Senator Oladayo Makinde, a member of Nigeria’s Senate representing Oyo North‑West, warned that the country’s current federal arrangement could become untenable by the 2027 general elections. He argued that persistent power struggles between the centre and the states, uneven resource distribution and frequent constitutional crises risk destabilising the federation, and called for deeper de‑volution of powers or a re‑examination of Nigeria’s federal structure before the next election cycle.
