eid al-adha
Eid al‑Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) is the second major Islamic holiday, observed each year on the 10th day of Dhu l‑Hijja, the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God, a test God nullified by providing a ram instead. Muslims worldwide perform special prayers, give charity (zakat al‑fidya), and slaughter an animal—usually a sheep, goat, cow, or camel—sharing the meat with family, friends, and those in need. The festival lasts up to four days and coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca. Views Nigeria
