New York, New Jersey probe FIFA’s World Cup

The New York and New Jersey authorities launched a joint criminal investigation into the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, focusing on alleged bribery, money‑laundering and fraud involving U.S. companies that secured marketing and sponsorship contracts. The probe examines whether officials and intermediaries paid illicit “facilitation” fees to FIFA executives and whether any U.S. firms violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. It follows earlier U.S. Department of Justice actions that resulted in charges against several FIFA officials and corporate executives. Views Nigeria
