NIMASA’S Renewed Push Against Maritime Crimes

NIMASA (Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency) has intensified its campaign to curb maritime crimes such as piracy, armed robbery, illegal fishing, and oil theft in Nigerian waters. The agency has upgraded surveillance with radar and AIS systems, increased joint patrols with the Nigerian Navy and international partners, and launched public awareness drives for coastal communities. New legal frameworks and stricter penalties are being enforced, and a dedicated task force is coordinating rapid response to incidents, aiming to protect shipping lanes, safeguard offshore assets, and improve maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.
