FCC to enforce sanctions for recruitment violations

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that it will begin enforcing sanctions against broadcasters and other licensees that violate the “recruitment” rules of the FCC’s political advertising regulations. Under these rules, stations must keep a public file of all political ads and must not allow political candidates or parties to “recruit” advertisers or sponsors through the station without proper disclosure. Violations can result in fines, forfeiture of licenses, or other enforcement actions. The move is intended to increase transparency and prevent undue influence in political advertising.
