national youth service corps

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a one‑year mandatory community service program for Nigerian graduates. Established in 1973, it aims to promote national unity, develop a sense of responsibility, and involve young people in nation‑building. Participants, called corps members, are posted to states other than their own for primary assignments (teaching, health, infrastructure, etc.) and undergo a three‑month orientation, a four‑month primary posting, a three‑month community development service, and a final passing‑out ceremony. Successful completion earns a NYSC certificate, which is required for many public‑sector jobs and further professional opportunities. Views Nigeria
