WHO declares Ebola public health emergency of international

On July 20 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreak in Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). The emergency was triggered by a surge of cases of the Sudan‑strain Ebola virus, which is more lethal and has no approved vaccine, prompting heightened global surveillance, travel advisories, and calls for accelerated research and response measures.
