Teachers protest, demand rescue of abducted colleagues, pupils

In early 2024, teachers in the Democratic Republic of Congo staged protests demanding the rescue of several colleagues who had been abducted by armed groups. The strikes, organized by teachers’ unions, also called for better security in schools and the safe return of the kidnapped educators, while urging the government to protect pupils from violence and disruption of education.
