Iran intercepts U.S.-made weapons carried by Iraqi groups
In March 2024 Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced that it had intercepted and seized a shipment of U.S.-made weapons that had been smuggled into Iraq and was intended for Iranian‑backed militias, including the Kataib Hezbollah and other Popular Mobilization Forces groups. The cache reportedly included rifles, ammunition and other small arms, which Iran said it confiscated to prevent them from reaching the militias and destabilizing the region. Views Nigeria
