In March 2024, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command in Nigeria raided an illegal firearms workshop in the state’s Ikot Ekpene area. Officers seized more than 200 unlicensed weapons—including pistols, rifles and ammunition—and arrested several individuals suspected of manufacturing and trafficking the arms.
