The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has denied claims that it withdrew from the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for June 20, calling the reports “false and misleading.”

In a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Araba Aiyenigba, the party confirmed that its governorship candidate, Ambassador Isaac Alade, will remain in the race and participate in the election.

Aiyenigba noted that the SDP was officially listed on the ballot by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and that Alade was among the candidates who signed the commission’s peace accord before the poll.

He said the withdrawal rumors were the work of political opponents and individuals not recognised by the party, and that they were attempting to sow confusion about SDP’s participation. He urged the public to disregard such claims.

The party also accused INEC of denying it access to upload the names of its polling‑unit agents for the election. Aiyenigba explained that although the commission had provided an access code to the SDP’s national secretariat, its officials allegedly failed to open the portal required to upload the agents’ details.

He expressed concern that this development could undermine the credibility of the electoral process and disenfranchise the party.

“SDP remains committed to participating in the election and providing a credible alternative platform for the people of Ekiti State,” he said.

Aiyenigba reaffirmed the party’s commitment to promoting credible elections, democratic governance and national development.
