Egypt captain Mohamed Salah is optimistic that the Pharaohs can add more victories to their record at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The team secured a 3‑1 win over New Zealand at BC Place in Vancouver, marking Egypt’s first World Cup victory since their debut 92 years and 25 days ago.

Finn Surman gave New Zealand an early advantage with a powerful header from a corner in the 15th minute.

Zico levelled for Egypt with a free‑header just before the hour mark.

Egypt took the lead for the first time in the match through Mohamed Salah, who slotted a crisp low finish into the net after a well‑executed team move.

Trezeguet sealed the victory with Egypt’s third goal eight minutes before the final whistle.

Salah Celebrates Important Victory

Salah expressed his joy after Egypt finally ended their long wait for a World Cup win, calling it a significant achievement.

“It’s incredible. I don’t know how to express it in words,” Salah told FIFA.com after the thrilling contest.

“It’s a great achievement for all the players, for the staff, so hopefully we can carry on like this in the group, and we can write history and qualify – and in years to come it will be remembered as one of the best achievements in the history of Egyptian football. We have to enjoy today, enjoy tomorrow, then focus on the next game.”

Egypt lead Group G with four points from two matches, ahead of their final group game against Iran.
