JOS — Kefas Ropshik, a businessman and governorship aspirant, has secured the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for Plateau State after a closely contested primary held ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ropshik received 19,938 votes, outpacing three other candidates. The primary drew delegates from all 17 local government areas of the state.
He will now represent the PDP in the race against incumbent Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who is expected to run for a second term in 2027.
In his acceptance address, Ropshik thanked party leaders, delegates and supporters, dedicating the victory to God.
“I accept this mandate with a heart full of gratitude to God Almighty, whose grace has sustained this journey from the humble soil of Garram in Kanke to this defining moment in our state’s political history,” he said.
He said his campaign is built on a “Plateau First” agenda, pledging to prioritise security, youth empowerment, economic development and inclusive governance if elected.
“This victory belongs to the people, and together we will build a united, secure, and prosperous Plateau. The journey begins now,” he added.
Hailing from Garram in Kanke Local Government Area, Ropshik stated he fully understands the challenges faced by citizens and vowed to run a transparent, development‑focused administration.
He also committed to serving only one term, in accordance with the state’s zoning arrangement.
“In line with the already laid out zoning agreement that keeps the peace, stability and unity of the Plateau people together, I intend to spend just four years in government, which by the special grace of God will usher in the impact of an eight‑year administration,” he said.
Ropshik called on other aspirants to support his candidacy and urged unity within the PDP ahead of the general election.
