A public policy analyst and political communications strategist, Kenny Okolugbo, argues that Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara should never have pursued a second term.
Okolugbo made the comment on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television’s “Prime Time.”
He noted that Fubara’s predecessor and former FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had made it clear that there was an understanding that Fubara would not seek re‑election.
Governor Fubara had already withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries ahead of the next year’s general elections, effectively opting out of the race.
In his own words, Okolugbo said Fubara should never have pursued the form for a second term.
“Wike made it very clear and didn’t hide the fact that there was an agreement of Fubara not going for a second term,” he said.
“But as the election date approached, it seemed increasingly likely that Fubara would breach that agreement.”
“When you have 30 members of the House of Assembly and 27 of them are against you, you must try to poach them and if you can’t, then you must capitulate,” he added.
