Nigeria Premier Football League side Rivers United were involved in a road accident on Thursday.
The incident happened while the team was en route to Awka, Anambra State, for their President’s Federation Cup Round of 16 match against Nasarawa United.
The club released a statement confirming that the accident took place on the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt shortly after the team left camp.
According to the statement, several players and officials sustained minor injuries, and no fatalities or life‑threatening injuries were reported.
Rivers United said all affected individuals were receiving medical care and were in stable condition.
“The safety, health and well‑being of our players and officials remain our utmost priority. We can confirm that some players and officials sustained minor injuries in the accident. Thankfully, there have been no fatalities or life‑threatening injuries reported,” the club added.
Recall that the Port Harcourt‑based club secured a place in the Round of 16 on Monday after defeating Rangers International 3‑2 and is scheduled to face Nasarawa United in Awka on Saturday.
