Rivers United Commend Players Despite NPFL Title Heartbreak

Rivers United have praised their players after securing a second-place finish in the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, Completesports.com reports.

The Pride of Rivers stated that the players displayed resilience, determination, and discipline throughout the campaign.

Rivers United narrowly missed out on the title despite a 3-0 victory over Katsina United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on the final day of the season.

Rangers clinched the title following a hard-fought 2-1 win against Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan.

The Flying Antelopes and Rivers United will represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.

Rivers United Hail Players

“The season has now concluded and we are proud to announce that Rivers United finished as runners-up and securing a CAF champions league once again,” Rivers United wrote in a statement.

“This achievement reflects the resilience, discipline and unity displayed by our players.

“We narrowly missed the title and competing at the highest level and challenging for it until the final weeks reaffirmed the standard and ambition that define thus club.”

Congratulations To Rangers

Finidi George’s side also congratulated Rangers on winning the league title this season.

“While the ultimate price eludes us, we accept the result with grace and respect for the champions,” they added.

“Our focus remains clear to build this foundation and address our shortcomings and return next season with greater resolve to bring the trophy back to Port Harcourt.”
