The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor‑Amadi, has announced that judges of the state High Court will begin their annual vacation on July 20.
The announcement was made in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday by the court’s Chief Registrar, Mr David Ihua‑Maduenyi.
The statement says that normal court sittings will resume on September 16.
Justice Chibuzor‑Amadi explained that the vacation follows Order 49, Rule 4(D) of the High Court of Rivers State Civil Procedure Rules, 2023 (as amended), and that all judicial divisions across the state will remain closed during this period.
He described the annual vacation as a routine judicial practice designed to give judges a recess after a year of court duties.
However, the Chief Judge noted that arrangements have been made to handle urgent cases during the vacation.
Vacation judges will be appointed to hear matters requiring immediate judicial attention, ensuring continued access to justice.
The arrangement is intended to prevent delays in time‑sensitive cases.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the annual court vacation is a standard practice within the judiciary, aimed at enhancing the efficient administration of justice.
