Rivers Government Promises Support as RMAFC Begins Fiscal Data Verification Exercise

The Rivers State Government has pledged its full support to the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) as the commission begins its national data verification exercise in the state.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara delivered the pledge on Friday night during a reception for an RMAFC delegation at Government House in Port Harcourt.

The delegation has visited Rivers State to update the information held by the commission and to evaluate the fiscal data needed for effective revenue allocation.

During a prior stakeholders’ engagement, Commissioner for Finance Kenneth Lekue noted that the state government acknowledges the exercise’s significance, especially its impact on revenue allocation and better fiscal planning.

Lekue added that the government has implemented the necessary measures to allow the team access to accurate, first‑hand information essential for effective data collection and verification.

He further assured the delegation that Rivers State is peaceful and secure, encouraging members to perform their duties diligently, move freely, and seek assistance whenever needed.

The exercise will include engagements with relevant stakeholders and verification of information regarding the use of public funds allocated to local governments and other tiers of government throughout the state.

The delegation includes the Rivers State representative on the commission, Ambassador Desmond Akawor.

RMAFC is the federal agency tasked with monitoring revenues that accrue to and are disbursed from the Federation Account, and with promoting transparency and accountability in public financial management.
