Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State visited the site of a collapsed four‑storey building in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The visit was to assess the situation and the ongoing rescue operations.
During the inspection, Fubara praised emergency responders and rescue teams for their commitment and dedication in locating and rescuing victims trapped beneath the debris.
The governor clarified that the building’s approval had been granted by a federal agency, not the Rivers State Government.
He also expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery for the injured as rescue efforts continue.
The four‑storey building, under construction in the Peter Odili axis of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, collapsed on Wednesday, trapping several people beneath the rubble.
The incident occurred just 48 hours after another three‑storey building collapsed at the Rumuolumeni axis of Port Harcourt.
