Rivers: Court affirms orders nullifying APC congresses

The Court of Appeal has confirmed a High Court ruling that invalidated the Rivers APC ward, local government, and state congresses, which had elected an executive committee loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Okocha had previously appealed the High Court’s ex parte order that barred the APC from holding congresses in the state.

He argued that the High Court lacked jurisdiction over the matter and therefore could not issue the order.

However, Justice Elfreida Williams‑Dawodu of the Appeal Court upheld the High Court’s authority to issue the order and dismissed Okocha’s appeal for lack of competence.

Ikenga Chibike, the Publicity Secretary of the Okocha‑led executive committee, has told party members that the committee’s status is not at risk while the full trial proceeds.

He added that the party’s lawyers will review the complete judgment and advise on the next steps.
