The Minority Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives has named Afam Victor Ogene its new spokesperson.
The announcement came in a statement released on Saturday by Minority Leader Fredrick Agbedi, who said the appointment was approved during an online caucus meeting held on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Ogene, the representative for Ogbaru Federal Constituency in Anambra State, currently chairs the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDP) caucus in the House.
According to the statement, he was chosen because of his extensive legislative experience, deep understanding of parliamentary procedures, and dedication to democratic governance.
The caucus noted that Ogene, a ranking member of the House and former journalist, will coordinate communication between the Minority Caucus and the public, and will articulate the group’s stance on national issues and legislative matters.
His role will also involve strengthening the caucus’s constitutional duty to provide oversight and hold the Executive branch accountable.
The statement described Ogene as an accomplished journalist and editor whose background in public communication will improve the caucus’s engagement with Nigerians and reinforce democratic principles in the National Assembly.
“The Caucus is confident that his appointment will strengthen its engagement with citizens and reinforce the principles of checks and balances in the 10th Assembly,” the statement read.
The Minority Caucus also urged media members and the general public to support Ogene in carrying out his new responsibilities.
