Reps Majority Leader Julius Ihonvbere Loses APC Primary Election

Professor Julius Ihonvbere, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, was defeated in the Progressive Congress primary for the Owan Federal Constituency.

The primary, held on Saturday, was won by former Mining Commissioner Hon Andrew Ijegbai.

The results were announced shortly after the exercise by the returning officer, Kelvin Muhammed.

According to Vanguard, the former commissioner received 3,695 votes, while the incumbent lawmaker secured 1,005 votes.

In his response, Ijegbai praised the party executive for conducting a transparent exercise and pledged to represent the people well if elected in the general election.

“The scores are as follows: Honorable Andrew Ijegbia scored 3,695 votes. Honorable Abdul Oroh scored 1,740 votes while Professor Julius Ihonvbere scored 1,005 votes. Honourable Folly scored 505 votes. Barrister Scot scored 642 votes. Total votes cast are 7,587 and the winner of this contest, which is the primary, is Hon. Andrew Ijegbai,” the returning officer said.
