Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has dismissed calls for a N500,000 minimum wage in Nigeria, labeling the proposal as unrealistic given the country’s current economic conditions.

Omokri made the remarks in a statement posted on his page.

In the statement, he cited an artificial‑intelligence response from Grok, which described the proposed N500,000 minimum wage as unrealistic when weighed against Nigeria’s fiscal realities.

He warned that adopting such a wage could force the country into borrowing to cover salary payments.

“Unless you want Nigeria to return to the era of borrowing to pay salaries, a ₦500,000 minimum wage is unrealistic,” the statement read.

Omokri added that responses to the issue should be guided by economic realities and the nation’s available resources.
