In recognition of the transformation and significant development underway in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, human‑rights lawyer Ikenna Ahumibe has urged President Bola Tinubu to reassign FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to the Federal Ministry of Transportation, citing a need to revitalize the sector, particularly Nigeria’s railway system.
In a statement released yesterday, Ahumibe said the FCT minister had excelled in his present role and should be redirected to restore the transportation sector, which he argues has fallen short of expectations.
He added, “Wike has distinguished himself as one of the most effective members of the Tinubu administration through the rapid execution and completion of critical infrastructure projects across the nation’s capital,” noting that his track record in the FCT shows the ability required to overhaul the country’s transportation system.
Ahumibe pointed out that Nigeria’s railway sector needs a visionary, results‑oriented leader who can spearhead the expansion of rail networks nationwide and link all states through modern transportation infrastructure.
He stated, “The FCT Minister’s remarkable performance over the past three years has shown exceptional leadership, efficiency, and an unwavering commitment to tangible results,” adding that an expanded railway network would boost economic growth, ease interstate commerce, cut transportation costs, create jobs, and strengthen national integration.
He maintained that Wike has the determination, execution capacity, and administrative experience necessary to deliver such an ambitious national project. “Given his record
