Real Madrid announced on Wednesday that they have prevailed in a legal dispute with a residents' association that alleged “noise pollution” from concerts at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
In January, a Spanish judge determined that every concert held at the stadium—including the performance by American artist Taylor Swift—had surpassed the permitted noise thresholds and that there were enough “indications” to treat the alleged disturbances as a criminal offence.
The case focused on Real Madrid Estadio, the entity that operates the iconic venue, which reopened in 2023 after reconstruction, and on its administrator, Jose Angel Sanchez, the deputy of club president Florentino Perez.
In a statement, Real Madrid quoted the court as saying it “clearly and categorically concludes that neither Jose Angel Sanchez… nor Real Madrid Estadio SL bear responsibility for any criminal offence in relation to the concerts held at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.”
Los Blancos added that the court dismissed the charges and clarified that the “concert promoting companies” are the parties “responsible for complying with the decibel limits”.
When approached by AFP, the Madrid courts’ press office said it could not comment publicly at this stage because “not all parties have yet been notified” of the ruling.
The decision may represent an initial step toward allowing the club to host concerts at the stadium again, provided that sound‑proofing measures are enhanced.
Real Madrid, having invested more than 1.5 billion euros ($1.76 bn) in renovating the stadium, had anticipated generating revenue by staging high‑profile concerts and other events.
Nevertheless, since September 2024, numerous concerts originally slated for the Bernabeu have been relocated to Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano stadium, which lies outside the city.
