Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez announced on Tuesday that club elections will be called and that he intends to run again.
“I am not going to resign,” the 79‑year‑old Pérez said at a press conference as the season approaches its conclusion without a trophy for Real Madrid.
Barcelona beat Real Madrid 2‑0 in the Clasico at Camp Nou on Sunday, securing a second consecutive La Liga championship with three matches remaining.
Madrid were eliminated from the Champions League after a quarter‑final loss to Bayern Munich.
Current Real coach Álvaro Arbeloa, who succeeded Xabi Alonso in January, is unlikely to continue next season, and former Madrid manager José Mourinho has been linked to a possible return.
This season marks the second consecutive year that Madrid have ended without a major trophy.
Supporters have protested against star player Kylian Mbappé, accusing him of insufficient commitment, and reports have emerged of several training‑ground altercations, one of which required midfielder Federico Valverde to be taken to hospital.
