Real Madrid are said to have added Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen to their summer transfer shortlist while they near a decision to appoint José Mourinho as head coach.
After a turbulent season, the Spanish club is planning a significant rebuild, and the Portuguese manager has already named the Nigerian international as the striker he wishes to lead the attack.
Mourinho has expressed admiration for Osimhen for years. Their first encounter occurred in Serie A when Osimhen played for Napoli and Mourinho was manager of AS Roma. Mourinho has previously compared Osimhen to Didier Drogba, the powerful forward he signed while at Chelsea.
Madrid contend that signing Osimhen would enable Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior to become more threatening in aerial duels, areas identified as their greatest strengths.
Simultaneously, discussions about Mourinho’s possible return to Real Madrid are progressing. Reports indicate the coach has set two principal conditions prior to accepting the role. His long‑time agent Jorge Mendes has already opened dialogue with Madrid officials, with more intensive negotiations likely after the current domestic seasons in Spain and Portugal conclude. Mourinho, presently managing Benfica, is reportedly receptive to a move back to the Bernabéu.
The first condition relates to recruitment influence. Mourinho seeks a decisive role in pinpointing positions that need reinforcement. During his initial tenure at Madrid, he was instrumental in bringing Luka Modrić, Mesut Özil and Sami Khedira to the club. He expects comparable authority should he return.
The second condition concerns the club’s internal hierarchy. Mourinho wants the coaching staff’s autonomy to be fully respected and minimal external interference in the dressing‑room. This stance aligns with the positions of Vinícius Júnior and former coach Xabi Alonso.
