Real Madrid President Pérez Blames LaLiga for the Club’s Trophyless Season

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said that the club’s participation in the 2025 Club World Cup “killed” the team.

Perez made the remarks to reporters on Monday morning.

He explained that the tournament cut into the players’ preseason preparations and had a negative impact when the new season began.

“The Club World Cup killed us this season,” Perez said. “We didn’t have a preseason, and after three months we had 28 injuries.”

“It’s a learning experience. I want to play in the Club World Cup, but not by throwing away a whole season.”

Real Madrid have now finished two straight seasons without winning a trophy and are expected to announce Jose Mourinho as their new manager this summer.
