Campos grew up in Tempe. Her parents, Miguel Campos and Maria del Pilar, taught junior high school in Chandler. Her paternal grandparents emigrated from Mexico, while her mother arrived from Spain. She has two brothers, Patrick and Joseph, and a sister, Leah, who served as a CIA operations officer and ran for Congress in Arizona in 2012. The family was raised in a strict Catholic environment.

After graduating from Seton Catholic High School, Campos earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Arizona State University. She was awarded a Woodrow Wilson Graduate Fellowship with the goal of becoming a college professor and completed a master’s degree in international affairs at the University of California, San Diego.

Personal life

Following her stint on The Real World, Campos was involved in a head‑on collision while the show’s fifth season was filming in Miami. The crash, caused by a driver who fell asleep at the wheel, killed her boyfriend and his friend, who were driving a rental car. Campos was ejected from the vehicle, sustaining serious injuries to her right leg that resulted in chronic arthritis, a limp and difficulty running.

She later married her Road Rules: All Stars co‑star Sean Duffy. The couple initially lived in Ashland, Wisconsin, where Duffy served as district attorney. In 2011, he was elected as a Republican representative for Wisconsin’s 7th congressional district. The family moved to Weston, Wisconsin, later that year, and in 2013 relocated to Wausau so Duffy could commute more easily to Washington, D.C., where he spent three to four days each week.

Campos‑Duffy disclosed in 2008 that she had suffered two miscarriages. By May 2016, the couple had eight children; a ninth child, a daughter born in 2019, arrived a month premature and was diagnosed with Down syndrome and a heart condition. To care for their growing family, Sean Duffy resigned from Congress on 23 September 2019. As of 2025, Duffy holds the position of United States Secretary of Transportation and has also served as acting administrator of NASA since 2025.

Activism and advocacy

Campos‑Duffy is the national spokesperson for the LIBRE Initiative, a nonprofit organization that promotes constitutionally limited government, property rights, the rule of law, economic stability and free‑market capitalism within the Hispanic community.
