Protest erupts in Ibadan over kidnapping of students and teachers

The National Union of Teachers (NUT) in Oyo State organized a peaceful protest in Ibadan after the recent abduction of students and teachers from schools in Oriire.

On May 15, kidnappers entered Esiele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and seized more than 40 students and teachers.

The perpetrators have posted disturbing footage showing how their victims are being punished in a forest.

After nearly three weeks in captivity, primary and secondary school teachers in the state took to the streets to demand urgent action from the relevant authorities.

The protesters gathered on Iwo Road in Ibadan, chanting solidarity songs and calling for the return of their colleagues and the schoolchildren, saying, “bring back our children, no more bandits,” among other slogans.
